Rubato with Jose Torres & Havana Dreams

Jose Torres' arrival to Poland we owe to Jorge Valcarcel, of whom Jose is a former student. Torres came to Poland in 1981, married a Polish woman, studied in Wrocław and had his first success as a musician. But the Cuban authorities were dissatisfied with such a turn of affairs. They tried to separate the spouses and tricked Torres to come back to his homeland. At that time, however, his firstborn son was born, so Jose also used a trick. His temporary trip to Poland continues to this day. For over 25 years he has been ranked first in the poll for the most popular musician of the year in the percussion instruments category in our country.

Members of the Havana Dreams group specialize in the performance of traditional Cuban music, their sound is full of emotions, liveliness, but also nostalgia – they paint the atmosphere of Havana's streets, which wake up and fall asleep in such an unusual mood every day

During the next edition of the Rubato series, we will hear Cuban music performed by Jose Torres and the Havana Dreams band. Cuban music taken straight from havana streets will sound in the golden hall of the Szczecin Philharmonic, filling it with a mass of positive energy and joy. The artists will present the standards of Cuban music, which are well-known, for instance, from the film Buena Vista Social Club
