After the Beethoven Year, we are slowly reaching for the works of other Viennese classics. This time, we would like to present the concert Symphony No. 22 in E flat major Hob.I: 22, "Philosopher" by Joseph Haydn. The composer, who was remembered by history as the one who established all the rules, which Mozart and Beethoven used to break in their works.
Many of Haydn's symphonies (he wrote 108!) have more or less adequate nicknames for our times. The title "Philosopher" does not come from the composer himself, but it was found on one copy of the notes from his time. For over two hundred years, there has been a philosophical and musicological discussion on its justification. Some believe that the alternating solo parts symbolize alternating questions and answers. Others, in turn, look for a musical image of a wistful philosopher, oblivious to the ticking clock and the passing of time. Still others admit that it is inadequate, because in the course of the symphony the fervor of thoughts gives way to emotional elation…
During the broadcast of the nearest concert,
the Szczecin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Łukasz Borowicz will also perform "Chorale Prelude for Chamber String Orchestra" by Wojciech Kilar and "Thirteen choral preludes from Orgelbüchlein J.S. Bach ”by Johann Sebastian Bach / Zygmunt Mycielski
