On Friday 15th January 2021 at 7:00 pm we are more than happy to invite you for the symphonic concert to celebrate the 50th jubilee of artistic work of Jorge Luis Valcarcel Gregorio.

Professor Jorge Luis Valcarcel Gregorio celebrates the 50th jubilee of artistic work this year. The most famous Cuban in Szczecin, a living music icon of our city, a percussionist of our Symphonic Orchestra for several decades, but also a great educationist.
"I was supposed to get a government scholarship for studies in Bulgaria, but when it appeared that there were no more places on a language course on Cuba, my principal said: Choose another country which is open for us! I had no idea what was the level of the percussion in Poland, but I thought: Penderecki, Lutosławski, Górecki- if there are so great composers in Poland and what is more, they are leading composers of this vanguard, then for sure the drumms music must be developed there. And I was right!"
A few years later after he made that choice, he came to Szczecin and he devoted his time not only to Szczecin Philharmonic, but also he began his educational work and he started to infect all his students and audience on the concerts with his positive attitude. Over 10 years ago Jorge Valcarcel was one of the most engaged people who were trying to open the Academy of Art in Szczecin.
During the symphonic concert the symphonic pieces of Cuban composers such as Marcos M. Valcarcel Gregorio, Guido Lopez, Flores Chavian and Leo Brouwer will be played. There will be also a Polish element- an overture to Stanislaw Moniuszko ‘Halka” opera.
